Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
What is EMDR?
EMDR therapy is a treatment modality that can be done with adults and adolescents/children. EMDR does not erase memories; EMDR allows the person to remember events/stories that have caused emotional distress to the mind and body. Through EMDR, we will be able to reduce vividness and emotional distress of traumatic memories through simultaneous stimulus that helps us process and desensitize these memories.
EMDR can help individuals feel more alive and less distressed. Our brain has an inherent system to process and integrate day to day life that becomes either stored or stuck information. Through bilateral stimulation used in EMDR, our nervous system becomes unlocked, allowing the mind to process the experience. The stuck becomes unstuck and becomes stored memories.
The key difference with EMDR therapy is that the person’s brain is doing all the healing and they are in control. EMDR explores the roots of actions and symptoms you are experiencing in present day. We guide you through the process of healing from past experiences that continue to impact you.
EMDR can be a very effective modality for those ready for a change.
